Chiropractic Functional NeurologyAfter a thorough case history of a patient’s symptoms, a chiropractic neurologist will do an extensive neurologic examination. The examination will ultimately focus on the function and/or lack of function of the brain.
The chiropractic neurologist will then determine the best way to stimulate and improve communication of the brain with the rest of the body, being extremely careful to not overwork it. Just like not doing enough, doing too much can make things worse. It is a careful balance to achieve optimal results for the patient. A chiropractic functional neurologist treats post-concussive syndrome differently than a medical neurologist does. A chiropractic neurologist looks to restore impaired function of the brain and nervous system through specific chiropractic adjustments and neurologic therapies specific to the patient’s lesion.
Conversely, to a medical neurologist, “There is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Instead doctors will treat the individual symptoms” (WebMD). WebMD states that, “Rest is the best way to recover from a concussion.” So, the current gold standard in medicine is rest and wait for the symptoms to improve. For many this is not the best option. The chiropractic functional neurologist will treat the patient as a whole. Ultimately balancing the brain and nervous system to aid in healing and recovery. |
